The poetess compares her mother's sleeping figure to that of a corpse, ashen and pale.
It reminded her that her mother was growing old and the fear of losing her mother sat in her heart. She further describes her mother as ‘a late winter's moon’ being wan and weak describing the progressing age taking over her mother's body.
