Write Short note on Birsa Munda.


Birsa Munda was a tribal leader and a folk hero who belonged to the Munda tribe. He was born in the mid-1870s in the tribal belt around Bihar and Jharkhand. He was impressed by the sermons of missionaries.

He was influenced by Vaishnav preacher and his teachings and given importance to purity and piety.


He was totally against the Britishers, moneylenders, traders, Hindu landlords and the missionaries, and started a movement to reform his society and people.


He started the movement against the British government but he was arrested in 1895. He was convicted on the charges of rioting. He was also jailed for two years.


In 1897 he was released but again his mission was to destroy us and Europeans. In 1900 he was died due to cholera and the movement was lost its glory.
