
The diagram above is that of a typical biogas plant. Explain the sequence of events occurring in a biogas plant. Identify a, b and c.
a) Sludge
A biogas plant is a concrete tank which is filled with bio-waste and cow dung slurry with some water. And it is covered by a floating lid which keeps on rising as the time passes by and the amount of bio-gas produced increases. Due to the temperature (i.e. about 38-40 degree celsius) and the bacteria present in the waste , fermentation process starts and causes the release of gases like methane, etc. These gases are then supplied to nearby houses and industries for cooking and various other purposes. The residue left in the tank can be used as fertilizer in fields.
