A substrate is a surface on which an organism lives. In biochemistry, the substrate is a molecule upon which an enzyme acts. forces such as

i) Van der waal force

ii) hydrogen bonding

iii) dipole dipole interactions

iv) ionic bonds etc are involved in the binding of substrate.
