Factors responsible for the location of the rural settlements in the world are as follows:-

• Water Supply- Water is one of the most important things in our daily lives. So most of the rural settlements are located beside any water body such as huge lakes or rivers. Water is used in every household activity like cooking, washing, bathing etc. It is also used in agriculture and fishing. It is also used for transportation.

• Land- Most of the rural settlements are located close to fertile land. Rural people primarily have agriculture as their occupation. So fertile lands are very necessary for good irrigation.

• Building material- The availability of building materials was also a primary factor for choosing a location. The areas where the building materials are available easy are a good location for staying. Like many people lived in forests because wood is found in plenty.
