What is Sardar Sarovar Project? What are its achievements?


Sardar Sarovar Project is a multi-purpose mega-scale developmental project at Narmada valley which was launched in 1980s. It consisted of construction of 30 big dams, 135 medium-sized and around 3 thousand small-sized dams on the Narmada river and its tributaries around the three states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Achievements -


• The dams constructed under this project was considered to be responsible for effective flood and drought control in the region of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.


• Huge areas of Gujarat and other nearby states were benefited in the terms of access to drinking water, irrigation, agricultural production and generation of electricity.
