What is UNEP? Mention its main functions.
UNEP stands for the United Nations Environment Programme. It aims to make countries aware of the consequences of economic growth that could lead to environmental degradation. Its main functions are-
i) To hold international conferences to generate awareness.
ii) To conduct studies and publish reports on the state of the environment and help governments improve the quality of life.
iii) It aims to also help countries by nurturing partnerships with civil society and other departments of the UN in order to achieve sustainable development.
