A coil of 0.01 henry inductance and 1-ohm resistance is connected to 200 volts, 50 Hz ac supply. Find the impedance of the circuit and time lag between max. alternating voltage and current.
Given:
Inductance of the coil: L = 0.01 H
Resistance of the coil : R = 1 Ω
Supply voltage: V = 200 V
Frequency: f = 50 Hz
Formula used:
Impedance of the circuit is given as
Here, Z is the impedance, R is the resistance and XL is the inductive reactance.
XL = 2πfL
∴ XL = 2× π × 50× 0.01
∴ XL = 3.14 Ω
Substituting we get,
∴ Z = 3.29 Ω
Now, expression for phase of the circuit is:
∴ ϕ = 72.33°= 1.26 radians
Time lag is given as:
∴ t = 4×10-3 seconds
Hence, impedance of the circuit is 3.29 Ω and time lag between max. alternating voltage and current is 4 ms.
