Describe the condition of an average peasant of North India.
The conditions of average peasants varied from region to region in northern India. Most of the peasants were not prosperous. Prosperous peasants often had at least a pair of oxen and ploughs. The peasants of Gujrat were considered the most prosperous as they owned on an average of 6 acres of land individually. This amount came down to nearly 5 acres for the peasants in Bengal. Rich peasants were those with more than 10 acres of land. Individual ownership determined the form of cultivation practiced.
