What do the terms ‘depletion region’ and ‘barrier potential’ mean for a p-n junction?
In case of PN junction, the junction requires much voltage to allow the current through it.
Barrier potential:
Barrier potential is the specific voltage of the junction. We need to apply voltage which is greater than the barrier voltage then only the PN junction will conducts.
Depletion region:
It is a conducting region. After dipping, the electrons and holes will pass through this junction. Electrons from the N side, holes from the P side will meet in the junction of PN and forms the depletion layer. It does not allow any charge carriers thought it. Both holes and electrons are stabilized here. So we can say depletion layer is an insulating layer.
