In groups of four discuss the following lines and their meanings.

(i) All that you do is match the words

To the brightest thoughts in your head

(ii) For many of the loveliest things

Have never yet been said

(iii) And everyone’s longing today to hear

Some fresh and beautiful thing

(iv) But only words can free a thought

From its prison behind your eyes

(i) The poet means to say that one has to choose their words carefully to match their bright thoughts. Choosing the right words is important for conveying the best of meaning behind our thoughts.

(ii) The poet asks the readers to express themselves in words because a lot of lovely things haven’t been said as of yet. Each thought and the way one expresses it is unique, hence one should not hold himself back.

(iii) We’re all listening so many things being said again and again. Everybody wants to hear something fresh or an old thought being expressed in a new manner.

(iv) The thoughts are in our mind, which is the prison behind our eyes. Only by speaking about what we think can liberate our thoughts.
