The length of a rectangular field is three times its breadth. If the area of the field be 147 sq metres, find the length of the field.
Let the length and breadth of a rectangle be 3x and x respectively
According to the question;
Area = 147cm2
Area = length.breadth
x (3x) = 147cm2
3x2 = 147
x2 = 49
x = 7 or x = – 7 taking square root both sides
x = 7 (x cannot be negative)
length = 3.7 = 21cm, breadth = 7cm
