What are rights and why are they important? What are the bases on which claims to rights can be made?
Rights are claims that are recognised by states and are necessary part of lives of the citizens to lead a life of dignity and respect. These are essentially a justified claim or an entitlement.
The bases on which claims to right can be made are:
a. Rights represents those conditions that we collectively see as a source of self-respect and dignity.
b. The necessity for every individual for their wellbeing. They help individuals to develop their talent and spirit.
Example: Right to livelihood may be considered necessary for leading a life with dignity.
