Why is the weight of an object on the moon 1/6th of its weight on the earth?
Weight is the force with which a body is pulled towards the centre of the earth or any other celestial body for that matter. The greater the force put by the celestial body, the greater the weight of an object on its surface.
The gravitational attraction on the moon is about one sixth when compared to that on the earth. Hence, the weight of an object on the moon is 1/6 th of the weight on the earth.
