Give the IUPAC name of the product formed when:
(i) 2-Methyl-1-bromopropane is treated with sodium in the presence of dry ether.
(ii) 1- Methyl cyclohexene is treated with HI.
(iii) Chloroethane is treated with silver nitrite.
(i) When two molecules of 2-Methyl-1-bromopropane is treated with sodium in the presence of dry ether, it forms 2,5-Dimethylhexane
The above reaction is an example of Wurtz reaction in which alkyl halides react with sodium metal in the presence of dry ether to form alkanes containing double the number of carbon atoms present in the alkyl halide.
(ii) When 1- Methyl cyclohexene is treated with HI, it gives 1-Methyl-1-iodocyclohexane.
(iii) When chloroethane (CH3CH2Cl) is treated with silver nitrite (AgNO2), it forms nitromethane (CH3CH2NO2)by the removal of AgCl.
