Explain the basis for groupings into five kingdoms.
The basis for grouping organisms into five kingdoms are:
1) Complexity of cell structure: It has two major cellular divisions within living things: Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic. Thus, two broad groups can be formed- one having prokaryotic cell structure and the other having eukaryotic cell structure.
2) Number of cells: It divides living organisms into unicellular and multicellular.
3) Mode of nutrition: Organisms basically have two types nutritions- autotrophic and heterotrophic. Thus, organisms can be broadly classified into different groups on the basis of their mode of nutrition.
4) Phylogenetic relationship: Based on body organization and evolution, organisms are divided into simple and complex organisms.
