Mitochondria

Mitochondria are called the "Energy House of the cell" or the "kitchen of the cell" since it produces the ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate) molecules, that act as the energy currency of the cell. Mitochondria is a double membrane-bound organelle, that possesses it's own DNA, ribosomes and phosphate granules thus it is self-replicating and can produce its own proteins. With the help of certain enzymes, fats and carbohydrates are oxidized by it and the energy released during this oxidation is stored in the form of ATP
