Can a combination reaction be redox reaction? Give an example in support of your answer.

Combination reaction: When two or more substances (elements or compounds) combine to form a single product, the reaction is called a combination reaction.

For example:

Formation of water from H2 and O2:

2H2 + O2 2H2O

In the above reaction, the electrons are shifting from hydrogen to oxygen. Hence oxygen undergoes reduction. On the other hand, oxygen is taking electrons from hydrogen. Hence hydrogen undergoes oxidation.

Thus, combination reaction can also act as redox reaction.
