Name one east flowing and one west flowing peninsular river. Explain any 2 points of distinction between them.
Narmada and Tapti are west flowing peninsular rivers as they flow from east to west. Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri, Mahanadi are east flowing rivers as they flow from west to east. Difference between west flowing and east flowing rivers is as follows:
i. West flowing rivers are drained in the Arabian Sea whereas east flowing rivers are drained in the Bay of Bengal.
ii. West flowing rivers does not form delta whereas east flowing rivers form a delta at their mouth before entering into the Bay of Bengal.
iii. Some west flowing rivers flow through rift valley which has been formed by faulting whereas no east flowing rivers flows through rift valley.
iv. West flowing rivers are generally small except Narmada and Tapti whereas east flowing rivers are generally large.
