What happens when the temperature of the solid increases?

Solid comprises of intermolecular particles packed rigidly with each other. When the temperature of solid increases, the intermolecular particles constituting solid absorbs this thermal energy and converts it into kinetic energy as a result of which, they tend to move with greater speed and gradually gets converted into a liquid.
