Construct an isosceles triangle whose base is 8 cm and altitude 4 cm and then another triangle whose sides are times the corresponding sides of the isosceles triangle.
Steps of construction:
i. Now in order to make a triangle, draw a line segment AB = 5 cm.
ii. Draw two arcs intersecting at 4 cm distance from points A and B; on either side of AB.
iii. Join these arcs to get perpendicular bisector CD of AB. (Since, altitude is the perpendicular bisector of base of isosceles triangle).
iv. Join points A and B to C in order to get the triangle ABC.
v. Now, draw a ray DX which is at an acute angle from point D.
vi. Plot 3 points on DX such that:
DD1 = D1D2 = D2D3.
vii. Join D2 to point B.
viii. Draw a line from D3which is parallel to D2B meeting the extension of AB at B’.
ix. Draw B’C’ || BC.
x. Then, draw A’C’ || AC.
Triangle A’B’C’ is the required triangle.
