How is a federal government better than unitary government?

The federal government is the one which includes working of both the government, i.e. Centre government and State government. In this system, power is divided between both the governments. The state government has the power of its own for which it is not answerable to central government

Under unitary government, either there is only one level of government, or the sub-units are subordinated to the central government. The central government has the power to pass on the orders to the provincial or the local government.

The federal government is better than unitary government because:

1. It helps to avoid conflict; the power is not concentrated at the centre rather is divided among governments.

2. Decentralization of power.

3. No authoritarianism or dictatorship, since the power is with both the governments.
