Explain the importance of five non-conventional sources of energy with suitable examples.
The five non-conventional sources of energy are mentioned below:
a) Solar energy: It is easy to install, environment-friendly and cost competitive.
b) Geothermal energy: It has been successfully tapped and used in geysers.
c) Tidal energy: The Indian coast has a lot of potentials to generate electricity from the large tides, but it has not been developed yet.
d) Wind energy: This has been successfully installed in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
e) BioEnergy – It can be converted into electrical energy, heat energy or gas for cooking. It helps to reduce environmental pollution, enhance self-reliance and reduce pressure on fuel wood.
