Describe the four major objectives of the ASEAN Economic Community.


Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), founded by Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

The objective of ASEAN are:


1. to accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region in order to strengthen the foundation for a prosperous and peaceful community of Southeast Asian nations.


2. to promote regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law in the relationship among countries in the region.


3. ASEAN follows the principle of “ASEAN way” meaning: Consultation and Agreement, Don’t use force/confrontation, Don’t interfere in the internal matters of states, Informal discussion, and Minimal institutionalization.
