The public executioner, Jacques Roux, when approached Robichon and Quinquart, was in a state of stage fright. He wanted to quit his job and had to deliver a speech in a theatre act explaining about his past life and conscience guilt of killing people. He was very nervous as he had never delivered an act before, and sought advice from Robichon and Quinquart on how to carry oneself on stage.
