How does something become a resource?

Anything becomes resources when it gains the economic value in society. The resources should some sort of utility that will help for the betterment of the human being. These resources must satisfy human needs. Everything available in our environment which can satisfy the human needs, provided, it is technologically accessible, economically feasible and culturally acceptable can be termed as Resources. The process of transformation of things available in our environment involves an inter-dependent relationship between nature, technology and institutions. Resources are the function of human activities. The human being themselves is an essential component of resources. Human being transforms the materials in the environment and converts them into a usable form.
