A geosyncline is a large-scale depression in the Earth’s crust containing very thick deposits.

Result of the upliftment of the sediments in a basin:

(a) It results in the formation of lofty mountains, especially when the adjacent area rocks subside due to the collision of the plates.

(b) The basin is formed when the rocks subside gets filled with sediments deposited by the rivers.

(c) This results in formation of a flat plain.

(d) Example include the Northern plain which is formed by tectonic action.
