The Cauvery is the most important river in Karnataka. It is also known as the Dakshina Ganga. It takes birth from Talacauvery in Kodagu district. Its tributaries are:

Hemavathi, Harangi, Lokapavani, Arkavathi Shimsha, Lakshmanatirtha, Kapila, Suvarnavathi and Bhavani.
