I visited Visveswaraya iron and steel plant it is in the bhadravati district of Karnataka. It is situated at a distance of 225 km from the state capital Bengaluru and about 20 km from the district headquarter shivamogga.

RAW MATERIAL- Iron ore and limestone,

Silicon Iron ore – from the hills station of Kemmannugundi mines in the Bababudan hills (Chikmagalur district)

Limestone- from Bhandigunda

Manganese and chromite- from a distance of 48 km

Charcoal from the nearby forests of the Malnad area

Electricity from the Jog hydroelectric and shravati power projects.

Products produced – producer of alloy and special steel in the country.

It also supplies- spun-pipes, ferro-silicon, cement, mild steel and castings.
