Q10 of 10 Page 490

Information and communications technology or IT has stimulated the globalisation process. How would it influence the country like India where people still depend on agriculture and believe in their customs and traditions?

IT has stimulated the globalization process in India. However, this has had an impact on

India.

a. Because a large portion of people in the country still depend on agriculture for their income, the growth of the IT industry has led to a significant increase in GDP as a result of the services provided by this sector. This has disrupted the Indian economy which traditionally relies on agriculture as its major contributor to the GDP.

b. Further, many farmers now face increased competition, and therefore become caught up in debt-traps or suffer severe losses in income

c. As a result of the rapid growth of the IT sector, people from across the world are now more interconnected. Globalization has led to an increased flow in ideas, and as a result of the internet, people are able to explore what goes on in different parts of the world. As a result, many customs and traditions have disintegrated, because there is more interaction between the global and the local.
