Issues of concern related to developmental projects such as the Sardar Sarovar Project –

• Sardar Sarovar Project is a huge project which required more than 240 villages to be submerged for construction of dams.

• More than 2 lac people, mostly villagers had to be rehabilitated. Proper and effective rehabilitation of so many people was a huge task.

• Narmada Bachao Andolan opposed the construction of dams, and questioned the efficacy of model of development the country was following.

• They also demanded a cost-benefit analysis of major developmental projects and argued that social costs like forced rehabilitation of project affected people and their loss of livelihood and culture must be addressed.
