(a) Umaji Naik of Maharashtra attempted to organize the Ramoshis in the revolt against the British. He issued a proclamation appealing to the people to fight against the British and to overthrow their rule.


(b) The introduction of the long-range Enfield rifles and the new type of greased cartridges was a matter of discontent amongst the Indian soldiers. The news of greased cartridges containing the fat of cows or pigs was responsible for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus as well as the Muslims and the soldiers.


(c) The princely state of Avadh was amongst the many Indian kingdoms which were abolished by Lord Dalhousie between 1848 and 1856 under the pretext of mismanagement.
