(a) Umaji Naik of Maharashtra attempted to organize the Ramoshis in the revolt against the British. He issued a proclamation appealing to the people to fight against the British and to overthrow their rule.

The news of greased cartridges containing the fat of cows or pigs was responsible for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus as well as the Muslims and the soldiers.
