The study of fossils is known as paleontology. And the age of the fossil is determined by the paleontologists by the method of ‘carbon dating’. The fossils were organic living objects that had walked the earth surface in prehistoric times and are majorly composed of carbon (C14) atoms which are radioactive in nature. In the method of carbon dating the age of the fossil is determined by the amount of C14 left in the fossil in the present day.
