The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation:

1. It was formed to promote peace, cooperation and development in South and South-East Asia.

3. Its first meeting was held in 1985 at Dacca, Bangladesh. Abul Ahsan was the first Secretary General.

4. It decided to increase cooperation in trade, communications, agriculture, health, postal service, technology etc.
