Cotton is solid, but it floats on water. Why?

Cotton floats on water because:

i. Cotton is a solid which has minute (porous) holes.

ii. The holes trap air inside themselves.

iii. As a result, the overall, density of cotton becomes less than water.

iv. Being lighter than water, cotton floats on water.
