What is the difference between plants and animals with regard to nutrition?

On the basis of mode of nutrition, plants are Autotrophic; they prepare their food on their own. They photosynthesize with the help of chlorophyll and Carbon dioxide in presence of raw materials like sunlight, to produce sugars and oxygen.

Chlorophyll + carbon dioxide (in presence of sunlight)

= sugars + oxygen

Animals are heterotrophic; they cannot prepare their food on their own. Animals obtain their food directly (herbivores) or indirectly (carnivores) from plants.

Animals which obtain food both directly and indirectly(both) are omnivores.
