Four major roles played by RBC ae-

(i) it contains a respiratory pigment called as Haemoglobin.


(ii) transportation of oxygen in the body


(iii) removal of carbon-dioxide from tissues.


(iv) contains an enzyme carbonic anhydrase which is very important for CO2 transport.
