Hartals and processions were begun but later this movement became violent; working class boycotted their work, students attacked police station, railway station and other public places, people burnt government buildings, vehicles, etc. Gradually British authority from the states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, etc, were disappeared. As a result, property worth ten lakh pounds were destroyed. Many people and army officials lost their lives and arrested. Thus, at the end of the Quit India movement British rule came to an end.
