Why were famines caused under British rule? Do you think it was because of the failure of rains or floods?

The economic development under British rule was very poor. Famines were caused not because of the failure of rains or floods but because of the following reasons:

1. The policies of the colonial government discouraged the development of textiles and handicrafts.

2. There was a huge decline in job opportunities and growth rate of income.

3. Since the employment opportunities were less, the per capita income was very low.

4. Adequate measures were not taken to control the increasing population.

It is well understood the famines during the British rule was not because of natural calamities but because of poor administration.
