What are the various purposes for which maps are used in our time?

Purposes of maps are:-

• Maps give an understanding of location and features of an area. Understanding of landscapes, the location of places, the location of major transport routes.

• Climatic maps can be compiled both for individual climatic features (temperature, precipitation, humidity) and for combinations of them at the Earth's surface and in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

• Electronic map- especially at the data-gathering survey level has been subsumed by Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Local information of rainfall level, wildlife distribution, and demographic data are integrated into a map.
