4 chairs and 3 tables cost 2100 and 5 chairs and 2 tables cost Rs. 1750. Find the cost of one chair and one table separately.

Let the cost of 1 table be Rs. a

Also, let the cost of 1 chair be Rs. b.


According to question, 3a + 4b = 2100 ……(i)


2a + 5b = 1750 ……(ii)


solving 2 × (i) – 3 × (ii) and adding:


⇒ 6a + 8b = 4200


⇒ – 6a – 15b = – 5250


⇒ – 7b = – 1050


⇒ b = 150


Putting the value of b in (i)


⇒ 3a = 2100 – 600


⇒ 3a = 1500


⇒ a = 500


So, the cost of one table and one chair is Rs. 500 & Rs. 150 respectively.
