Q5 of 5 Page 140

Give example of flower which contains both stamens and carpels.

A stamen is a part of the male reproductive system in a flower and a carpel is a part of the female reproductive system in a flower. Bisexual or perfect flowers have both male (androecia) and female (gynoecia) reproductive structures, including stamens and an ovary.

In bisexual plants, both self pollination and cross pollination can occur due to the presence of both reproductive organs in the same flower itself. During self pollination, the stigma of a plant is pollinated by the pollen grains of a genetically identical flower. Hence, self pollination produces genetically identical offspring to the parent.

There are many flowers which have both stamens and carpels together in the same flower. A few examples of such flowers include Hibiscus, Sunflower, Rose, Lily, Tulip, and Daffodil.
