Examine the controversy over Hindi and English as an official language.

As per the Indian Constitution the usage of English for the official purpose was to be stopped in 1965, however some states like Tamil Nadu demanded its continuance. This demand turned into a movement which converted into violent form. The central government then decided to continue using both English and Hindu for official purpose.

Hence the leaders of the country took a pragmatic decision of allowing both the languages in order to avoid any further controversy.
