What are the causes of poverty? Explain.

On the basis of the circumstances and characteristics of poor people, poverty could be defined. The various causes of poverty are –

• Low levels of education and skills – The person who could not afford to get an education and develop skills tend to remain poor and fail to get a proper job. This results in poverty.

• Infirmity, ill health, sickness – Due to the sickness, the person tends to spend more and ultimately comes to a position where he has no resources to spend. This becomes the cause of poverty.

• Discrimination – many people, face discrimination, and this happens due to the social, economic and political inequality, social exclusion, unemployment, indebtedness and unequal distribution of wealth. This becomes the main reason of Poverty in many countries.
