Why was the need for decentralization recognized in India?

When the power is taken away from Central and state government and given to the local government is called Decentralization. Our constitution focuses on the importance of decentralization and has also implemented them.

• Decentralization makes easy governance as the issues of villages or municipalities gets resolved in that level itself.


• Panchayats were set up in villages and municipalities in urban areas.


• In 1992 the constitution was amended to make a three-tier democracy.


• Rural government is known as Panchayati Raj.
