Explain any three features of Scholars Revolt in 1868 in Vietnam.

The Scholars Revolt was a movement which was started against the French control and the spread of Catholicism.

1. The movement was led by the officials at the imperial court who were angered by the French power. The French were keen on converting Vietnamese to Christianity.


2. There was a general uprising in the two provinces of Vietnam, Ngu An and Ha Tien.


3. More than one thousand Catholics were killed in that uprising.


However, the revolt was suppressed by the French. This revolt was an inspiration to other patriots to rise up against French.
