Where is the lower end of the lightning conductor fixed and how?

A metallic rod, taller than the building, is installed in the walls of the building during its construction. The lower end of the rod is buried deep in the ground and the upper end is kept out in the air. The metallic rod transfers the electric charge to the ground.
