Answer any one of the following questions in 150 – 200words:

(i) Describe Raja’s life in the circus.


(ii) What kind of man was the Captain?


(i) After losing his family, the tiger Raja is forced to take in a grand circus where he is trained by the circus owner Captain and learns all tricks to perform. The hardships are still worst for him as before. He learns to perform various dangerous stunts such as walking on a thin rope, jump from a fire ring and many other acts which are very risky for him. By the continuous training and harsh treatment by the Captain he gradually adapts himself as a performer of circus and begin to take the appreciation by the audiences very soon which make him and the captain very happy but it is still tormenting for him to live a risky life like this. Mistreated by the Captain makes him very hurt and depressed to which he thinks that he is destined for a life like this. Soon after he leaves the circus after the death of Captain which is killed by him in an accident during a scene.


(ii) The Captain was the owner of the Grand Malgudi Circus. He was hard working, innovative and protective in nature. He takes care of the animals of his circus and is very efficient in managing the circus staff including a lot of people and animals. He is strict during the training period as he is very sincere towards the performances held in the shows. As the tiger Raja soon become the attraction of the audiences, the Captain has a special consideration for him. He is always very attentive and protective towards Raja whenever he is doing any dangerous acts and stunts as he is worried about him a lot. But overpowered by greed for money, the captain finally uses the electric weapon on Raja during the shooting of a scene. Eventually he gets killed by the tiger to defend himself. Though he was a nice person and diligent towards his work but the greediness of captain is the ultimate source of his death.
