What is the role of money and gold in Silas’s life ?

Silas’s love of his money could be seen as the opposite of faith in that it renders his actions important only as a means to obtain more gold. Conversely, a life of faith, as exemplified by Dolly Winthrop, is one in which actions have meaning as manifestations of belief. Silas’s gold serves as a substitute for his lost faith. Silas loves his gold, works for it, and looks forward to viewing it and holding it in his hands each evening. He even comes to love the faces engraved on the coins as if they were his friends. But, as is made clear when Eppie appears, in his miserliness Silas has wasted his love on something that has no capacity to reciprocate. Unlike his lost faith, Silas’s love of his money is simply a desire and does not involve any higher system of beliefs.

Dolly was a kind person. She was physically present Silas needed help with the child. She understood his need to feel he could take care of the child and need to be loved by the child . She encouraged him by saing that child responded to him. She helped him raising the child through effort, encouragement and advice.

Yes, the ending of the novel is justified because Griffin had caused a lot of harm to the people. He had created mischief at the vicarage and caused trouble for Kemp and Marvel. He became greedy and in his never-ending quest to gain power, he forgot the difference between wrong and right. He did not considered what will be the consequences of his actions and how will they affect others. In fact, some of his actions were directly aimed at causing harm to people. He had got a very unique power which he could have used for good deeds. He could have worked towards bringing a change in the society. But he chose the wrong path. He wanted to rule the world and earn money. This kind of mentality deserved a severe punishment. It may be argued that he should have been given a second chance, but had he been given a second chance, he could have caused more harm to people. Thus, it was justified to kill him as soon as an opportunity came.

Mrs. Hall had a very strange impression of Griffin. Since the beginning, she was suspicious of him because of his clothes and the fact that face was completely covered. She thought that he was a mysterious man and wanted to hide something. She was often irritated and annoyed by Griffin because of Griffin’s rude behavior. But this did not make her get rid of Griffin because every time she used to bother him, Griffin offered her a handsome amount of money which she used to accept. His mysterious behavior and his luggage, which consisted of tubes and other scientific stuff strengthened her suspicion about Griffin. But, in spite of all this, she thought that Griffin was working on something important and did not want to be disturbed, for which he was ready to pay the price. He became a money-minting machine for her. She also noticed that he was a man who didn’t like to socialize and preferred being alone. So, according to him, he was a very strange man but she didn’t do anything about it as she was greedy about money.
