How can an AC generator be converted into a DC generator?


An AC generator can be converted into a DC generator by using a commutator. Commutator is an attachment, connected with the armature of a motor or dynamo, through which electrical connection is made and which ensures the current flows as direct current. What a commutator does is change the conductor after a half cycle so a single terminal always experiences same EMF.
